Compute the Page Matrix Before Setting Volume

A grid of nodes with variable-length spokes; their intersections form a rigid boundary enclosing a swirling mass, symbolizing page upper limit determined by object count multiplied by page types per object
Page count is calculated as upper limit: enumerable object count × page types per object, not setting output first then finding topics

IN ONE SENTENCE

Page count is derived — enumerable objects × page types per object gives the ceiling, rather than setting a volume and hunting for topics.

Page count should be derived: find the enumerable objects (platforms, metrics, terms, scenarios, integrations), decide how many page types attach to each, and object count × page types is the ceiling. If it computes to 300, plan 300; if it computes to 80, do not set a target of 300.

OUR POSITION

Setting a monthly quota and then finding topics is the main source of thin pages. Production capacity is usually not the constraint; topic space is. Forcing the number produces rephrasing that neither ranks nor pays for the crawl budget it consumes.

01

How to compute the matrix

First, find the enumerable objects: how many platforms, how many metrics, how many terms, how many target scenarios, how many integrations. These can be exhaustively listed rather than invented.

Second, decide the page types per object. For platforms: citation mechanics, crawler access, optimisation checklist, measurement — that is platform count × 4.

Third, total it and compare with the goal. Close a gap by adding page types or objects, not by raising a monthly editorial quota.

02

The three page types have different economics

Structured pages — one per object, each carrying its own real data: low unit cost, uniqueness from the data, suited to volume.

Glossary pages: lowest unit cost, the foundation for citation, suited to coverage.

Opinionated depth pages: highest unit cost, where production is not the constraint and **topic space is** — so front-load them and then move to increments.

03

Why to read it alongside position bands

Beyond position 11 this category returns almost no clicks. So after computing the ceiling, ask how many of those pages can realistically reach the top ten.

When the answer is uncertain, publish a small batch covering each type, read indexing and ranking feedback, and then decide whether to replicate it two hundred times.
