AI summaries moved it up a level: on Similarweb's measure, news queries went from 56% to 69% within a year, and Pew's behavioural study found clicks on traditional results at 8% with an AI summary versus 15% without. The implication isn't that traffic must fall. Rather, being seen and being clicked have decoupled — so measurement has to change.
